$60,000 in Congregational Grants Awarded!

Episcopal Impact Fund is pleased to announce the first recipients of its new Congregational Grants program. The congregations and ministries listed below will receive funding to support the crucial work they do serving people living in poverty in the Diocese of California.

Over the next three newsletters, we will describe the work Episcopal Impact Fund’s grants will support, starting this week with Holy Child and St Martin, St John the Evangelist and St Clare’s:

Holy Child and St Martin, located in Daly City, has a robust outreach program to people experiencing homelessness. Each month, a team of about 10 volunteers prepares and serves a Sunday dinner to about 125 residents of the Safe Harbor Shelter in South San Francisco. Episcopal Impact Fund’s grant will help defray the cost of the shelter meals.

St Clare’s in Pleasanton will launch a new ministry, Laundry Love, in 2020, with start-up funding from Episcopal Impact Fund. Laundry Love’s goal is to “brighten the lives of no and low-income people through love, dignity and detergent,” by providing free access to laundry facilities. As one unsheltered person observed: “If I had clean clothes people would treat me like human being.”

St John, the Evangelist in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco, practices radical hospitality by opening its doors to many service providers, including the Gubbio Project whose mission is to provide a safe, warm place for unsheltered people to sleep. The increased use of the church requires infrastructure upgrades that Episcopal Impact Fund’s grant will help fund.
