Where Every Student Gets a Path Forward
Meet Life Learning Academy: A Treasure Island High School Where Students Have a Place to Learn and a Place to Live.

“Episcopal Impact Fund doesn’t just fund our work; they believe in our students and stand with us. Seeing the Impact Fund community rally around young people who are building their futures is a gift.” —Craig Miller, Co-Executive Director, Life Learning Academy
Life Learning Academy (LLA) is a San Francisco charter high school on Treasure Island for students who have struggled with school disengagement, housing instability, and other high-risk challenges. Many arrive after falling through the cracks at traditional schools, and LLA was built to be the place where they finally don’t.
What makes LLA different is that it doesn’t separate school from the rest of a student’s life. It’s a small school where staff know every student by name, and every part of the program is built around meeting students’ specific needs. Academics and college readiness sit alongside workforce development, social-emotional learning, community building, individual support, and housing, so students can work toward graduation and plan for what comes next.
Housing is a unique part of that model. LLA operates an on-campus dormitory, so students who don’t have a stable place to live don’t have to choose between a bed and a diploma. Safe, reliable housing is what makes it possible to show up for class, finish assignments, and look ahead.
Episcopal Impact Fund is proud to support LLA as a grantee, and we want you to see the school for yourself. In this Grantee Spotlight, you’ll get a look inside the campus and hear what a school like this makes possible for young people who need more than a classroom.
